The Oakland Livingston Human Services Agency has announced the date for their 27th Annual Walk for Warmth fundraiser.

Linda Zabik, chairsperson of the Walk for Warmth, said the funds collected from the walk will keep families warm and safe this winter

“In Oakland County, more than 50 percent of those helped were children and elderly individuals,” said Linda Zabik, manager of corporate responsibility at Genisys Credit Union and chairperson of the Oakland Walk.

“Walk for Warmth...ensures that our most vulnerable populations are kept healthy amidst the challenges frigid Michigan winters bring.”

The 2016 Walk for Warmth in Oakland County raised $90,366. Every dollar goes back into the county in which it is raised, ensuring each event has a meaningful, direct impact locally.

As of Wednesday afternoon, nearly $12,500 had been raised in general donations towards the walk in Oakland County.

The Oakland Livingston Human Services Agency’s Emergency Utility Assistance program is funded by contributions from Walk for Warmth. Residents, when faced with a utility shut-off notice, access the fund. Funds are used throughout the year, but many people associate utility emergencies with the cold winter months.
