Livingston Walk dances its way to success Posted: February 19, 2013

Dancing. Laughing. Prayer. Exercise. Learning. Walking, of course. Livingston Walk for Warmth has come and gone, and OLHSA is pleased to declare that it was a major success!

With Buzz Elliot of WHMI-FM as emcee, teams and individual walkers gathered together in excitement at the Hartland Educational Support Service Center. Walk Chairperson Candye Hinton and OLHSA CEO Ron Borngesser spoke of Walk for Warmth’s importance, impact and how community and sponsorship involvement has shaped the event.

Many of our area’s elected officials and public leaders were on-hand to present the Team of the Year award to Livingston Area Rotaries. Rotary District Governor Jim Gilmore accepted the award on behalf of Rotary Clubs of Brighton, Fowlerville, Hartland, Howell and Livingston Sunrise. These Rotaries have tirelessly committed themselves throughout the year to OLHSA’s mission of empowering people in need and improving the quality of their lives.

After well deserved thanks and recognitions were announced, DJ Kurt Lewis officially kicked off the walk. We were joined by 450 community members, sponsors, families and friends who walked and danced their way through the event, raising funds for OLHSA’s Emergency Utility Assistance program in Livingston County and having a blast along the way. Check out a video below from the Walk where our official penguin mascot led walkers in an impromptu YMCA dance session!

We were also uplifted by sponsors who told us tales of creative fundraising and layers and layers of community support. A great example is the Howell Area Chamber of Commerce Foundation, who used funds raised in the Fantasy 5k race to fund their generous Walk for Warmth contribution. The community in Livingston is continuously proving its dedication to its whole self.

We would like to personally thank those who were involved with this momentous occasion. Everyone from walkers to sponsors and volunteers made a significant impact in Walk for Warmth’s mission of keeping the heat on inside homes for families who need it most. We couldn’t have done it without you!
