Head Start learns about growing plants and herbs through AeroGardens Posted: May 25, 2016

Head Start preschoolers in Pontiac enjoyed watching herbs and produce grow over the past few months using special AeroGardens. The indoor gardens were purchased through a Michigan Farm to School grant, which assists with bringing fresh produce into schools.

Herbs that have been grown so far are Genovese Basil, Thai Basil, Curly Parsley, cilantro, chive, mint, and dill. OLHSA Head Start also purchased more seed kits that will grow produce like tomatoes and peppers. So far the children have gotten to see, smell, and touch the different herbs and learn about them with their teachers. Eventually they will also be able to taste the tomatoes and peppers in salsa they will make!
