Grandparents Raising Grandchildren

The Grandparents Raising Grandchildren (GRG) program provides free services to grandparents who reside in the same residence and as relative children in kinship care in Oakland, Livingston and Macomb Counties. Program services include workshops, support groups, home visits and intergenerational activities.

•    Workshops – GRG offers interactive seminars on a variety of important topics. These topics include: health and wellness, parenting, and legal issues.
•    Support Groups – In-person and virtual support group meetings let grandparents meet others who are in a similar position and can relate to the ups and downs of their situation.
•    Intergenerational Activities – Finding common points of interest with your grandchild can be difficult, GRG helps by providing events and activities that grandparents and grandchildren can enjoy together.
•    Monthly E-mail Blasts – Registered grandparents will receive monthly e-mail blasts and mailings containing useful resources.

To sign up for the program or learn more information about it, please call 248.209.2721 or email the program at Lisag@olhsa.org.

Programs

Impact 100 Oakland County awarded OLHSA with a grant for the Grandparents Raising Grandchildren program in the fall of 2020.  The Gigabytes for Grand-families project will provide 20-25 Oakland County Grandparents Raising Grandchildren who have a formal kinship caregiver arrangement with a computer, Internet service and training for 24 months. Project participants will learn how to care for and use their devices to increase their individual computer skill level. Completing budgeting classes to be able to afford future purchases and Internet after the project ends, and committing themselves to participate in a minimum number of virtual meetings are also requirements to help participants thrive.
